Everything That We Need

I can’t remember where I got this from, if I compiled or not – probably not – but it is a great mini-message.

Everything we need, Jesus is!

  • We need this bread that gives life – He is the bread of life.    John 6:35
  • We need eternal life – He is eternal life.    1 John 5:20

Is God Causing This Recession?

Obviously, I don’t have to explain the economy as it looks today. However, I don’t think that we have seen the worst of it yet.

People want to blame it on the president (no matter who it is or who it is going to be), but the president is only one person who has no control over the economy. Congress isn’t going to act on anything soon enough. Although, it does seem convenient to blame someone else, doesn’t it?

The question for now: is God causing this recession? Consider this passage from Romans: Continue reading

The Call Is The Same

The gospel call is the same for everyone. Have you ever thought about it before? I hadn’t really put much thought into it. One of my newest favorite verses is in Ephesians:

“There is one body and one Spirit – just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call – one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.” – Ephesians 4:4-6 (ESV)

I happened to discover (or be led to) this passage while I was in Russia back in July. Of course, I am not Russian, I didn’t know the language or the culture, and yet I was there to show and share the love of Christ.

No matter where you are in the world, what language you speak, what profession you are in, what your situation is, or who you are, the gospel call is the same for all people: Continue reading

In one day, I leave for Russia on a team mission trip. We will be gone for two weeks. This trip has me excited, and I have just now started to get a little nervous after hearing about some of the security and safety measures that we will have to go through.

The purpose of this trip should be obvious based on my wording in the first paragraph, and for those who know me, but we are going for “cultural exchange.” As I understand it, we will be traveling in groups of two with about ten Russian college students in each group. Most/all of these will not be Christians, so our purpose is to set a Christ-like example, and let Him shine through us (while exchanging cultures of course). Continue reading

The Joy of Sharing the Gospel

I have been going through a personal evangelism class this summer called T.E.L.L. It stands for Teaching Exchanged Life Living. It is a completely fresh approach to personal evangelism. I have been trying recently find out all I can about approaches to sharing the gospel. A couple months ago I went through some personal evangelism stuff with one of my friends from Lee University, and I also went through some stuff with a friend from Carson-Newman College. While that stuff was good, I am really into this TELL approach.

I think it is great to go through all the material you can find if you get an opportunity. As long as it centers on repentance and faith in Christ (and making people realize that they, like me, are sinners) then I believe it is Biblically based. Continue reading

Do I Love Jesus?

I could sit for hours and discuss theology and world religions with some people – in all actuality, probably not because I am an active person – but I do love to talk and sometimes debate about these things. I like to discuss doctrine and church practices. I love to discuss the Bible.

But what does any of that matter if I do not love Christ? And sure we can all (as Christians) say that we love Christ, but what I mean is this, are we in love with Him? Is He all that we desire, is He all that we treasure? Do we long to spend time with Him? Do we place Him above everything else – yes everything else? Do we put Him above our job, our schoolwork, or even our other personal relationships (with family, girlfriend / boyfriend, etc.)? Continue reading

Why Have Hope?

Do you ever find yourself in a seemingly never-ending downward spiral? Do you ever just wonder what God’s plan is? Do you feel like your life is meaningless and hopeless?

If you have, then be assured you are not alone. I have felt that way as of late…always wondering what in the heck is going on, how I am supposed to get through life.

The good news for you (and me) is that there is hope. Hope is found in Jesus Christ. He is the foundation of hope. While I am going to touch on my life in this post, most of it will deal with finding hope through Jesus Christ.
