I love to initiate conversation topics. Notice how I said conversation, not controversy. That is not my goal. It is for the reason of conversation that I am posting this one.
My Basic Political Views
I do not consider myself a republican or a democrat – that is to say that I do not vote strictly one way or the other, however, I tend to lean towards conservative views.
Here are three issues that I feel strongly about:
1. Abortion. If a candidate is for abortion, then I am against that candidate.
2. Healthcare. If a candidate is for a universal healthcare system, then I am against that candidate.
3. Christianity. If a candidate says they are a Christian, then I want to know why they believe that. I will summarize that with what I heard Wolf Blitzer say about Barack Obama. He said, “He is a Christian, he goes to church.” Going to church alone does not make you a Christian.
Why A Democrat Should Not Be President In 2008
I will summarize it in one sentence. All of the leading democratic candidates – Clinton, Obama, Kerry, etc. – are socialists. This is very bad for our society.
Issue to Prove My Viewpoint
The issue that I am using in illustrating my viewpoint is the current bill regarding SCHIP Legislation. This legislation has passed the house, and is before the senate. President Bush has said that he will veto this bill. Basically, here is what is proposed:
The SCHIP Legislation would provide healthcare funds for uninsured children. Anytime we see a “it’s for the children” legislation, that means that we are going to get screwed. Here’s how: the bill would serve to raise the tobacco tax because Congress thinks that tobacco is inelastic. That is to say that they believe if they raise the tax, then there would be more tax revenue.
Studies have shown however, that states that raise the tobacco tax actually have less tax revenue. So, if raising the tobacco tax proves to not be effective in bringing in dollars for the SCHIP Legislation, does that mean that they would scrap it? No!
It means that overall, in order to fund this bill (law), our income taxes would end up being raised.
Now, with all democrats being socialists, this means that they would sign this bill into law if it were brought before them. So in the end, we (the working Americans) would pay more taxes to fund this law, because the increased tax revenue from tobacco will be ineffective.
To end this, I will put forth another topic for consideration. Universal Healthcare. This would be a very bad system for the United States. If you want to know why I think so, then I will be glad to share it.
